Day 3 of Nev’s “20 Days of Gold Making“

Lets talk starting Tips and Tricks…

Greys Are Good!

Ok so this isn’t a massive gold making tip, but it certainly adds a little extra to your pocket, especially when leveling. A lot of players look at greys and just throw them away, but if you get a Grey selling addon like “Sell Grey” or use a macro then selling these items each time you are near a vendor can bolster your pocket without any effort required.

Grey Selling Macro:

/run local c,i,n,v=0;for b=0,4 do for s=1,GetContainerNumSlots(b)do i={GetContainerItemInfo(b,s)}n=i[7]if n and string.find(n,”9d9d9d”)then v={GetItemInfo(n)}q=i[2]c=c+v[11]*q;UseContainerItem(b,s)print(n,q)end;end;end;print(GetCoinText(c))

Simply make this into a macro, and add it to an action bar. Then with a vendor window open click the button.

Information is IMPORTANT

Having as much information about your markets is very important, how you record this information is personal choice. Most gold makers these days use addons (TSM, Auctioneer, Auctionator, Etc), but spreadsheets, a note pad, or even post-it notes all do the job. Record material costs, sales histories, players names that you have bought from, or who have bought from you. What ever information you find useful to help you asses your market, find a way of recording it!

The best resources for this in my opinion are:

The Undermine Journal - The European Undermine Journal

TradeSkillMaster

Altoholic

Auctioneer

Auctionator

Pen and Paper

There are other websites, addons and tools useful for this, but these are just the ones I find most useful.

Netherweave Bags

Netherweave bags are an amazing market to try out for starters. The reason being is it requires some crafting, material sourcing, and usually has some small competition. But the materials are simple, the crafting cost easy to calculate, and usually the demand is high/reasonable.

This means you have an easy market to get your feet wet so to speak.

1 Bag requires 4 Bolts of Cloth (and 1 vendor bought Rune Thread)

1 Bolt requires 5 cloth

Therefore 1 full stack of cloth = 1 Bag

So if a stack of cloth costs 3g, then the crafting cost of the bag is 3g (+12s 50c for rune thread)

See what prices you can sell the bags at, pushing your price up and down as appropriate, and once you find your servers “sweet spot” you can decided on a maximum crafting price you are willing to pay. (HOWEVER BEWARE NETHERWEAVE IS PLENTIFUL AND THE MARKET CAN EASILY BECOME FLOODED! DO NOT OVER CRAFT!)

Listen, Look and Learn

By listen, look and learn I mean listen to the various gold making Podcast, Read blogs/forums and learn from them. But don’t be afraid to get involved, comment on bloggers/podcast pages with your experiences, questions etc!

Join us all on twitter, and over at the Consortium

So that’s just a few Basic Tips and Tricks for starter gold makers

Day 2 of Nev’s “20 Days of Gold Making“

Lets talk goals…

So for those that read my blog when I was a regular poster (sorry), you will know I have spoken about goals before (Why Do You Want Gold) but what goals keep me going in WoW and in gold making.

But what was my major gold making goal? Well the 1st time I set myself a major gold goal was back at the end of wrath. My Guild Master and the Raid Team leader had both always had lots of gold, but they made it from farming, or doing tons of dungeons for BOE epics etc. But I couldn’t seem to make the gold they could from the same activities, and I was so jealous of the mount collections.

After one 10 man run, 5 of the plays all sat on their Traveller’s Tundra Mammoths I mad the decision that I would Get one of these mounts! But I didn’t want to make the gold then spend it all on 1 mount, so I decided to set myself the goal of 100k gold, with the reward of buying the mammoth once I hit my goal.

So I started to Fish TONS, selling fish feasts via the AH and to some guild officers I knew. This was netting me gold, but not at any decent speed. So I moved into JC at this point doing all my sales manually and crafting only small amounts at any time, but I was gaining speed and before cata came along I hit my 100k and bought my Mammoth! But I had been bitten by a bug! I wanted more…mounts! This time my eyes where fixed upon getting myself a motor bike! So again I set myself a gold goal, this time only 150k as Bikes where in-expensive on my server at the time.

This cycle repeated for a couple of pets and other big name items until I realised I enjoyed the gold making more than the reward, and whilst reading other blogs etc I really got the bug and that brings me to the beginning of my blog

Gimp:D

As you all know I’m British, and this means like all Brits I’m a gentleman with chivalrous ways. So when a fair maiden Nev set the community the 20 days of gold making blogging challenge it was only right I accepted the fair quest.

Ok so I’m just talking rubbish, but be that as it is I’m still doing the “20 Days of Gold Making”

Day 1

When did you start gold making & what triggered it?

This is such a simple question, with a not so simple answer. Even back in Vanilla i was always looking for ways to make gold, but my idea of making gold then was to farm Tyrs Hand in Eastern Plague lands for cloth and Travelers Backpacks (add a couple of now removed patterns). The only time I used my profession to make money was when I went Skinning black dragon scales, which sold amazingly, but it never occurred to me to turn these into the chest plates my buyers where, thus creating much higher profits.

In The Burning Crusade my “gold making” advanced to mass AOE farming on my Protection Pally, where I’d most often be found sitting atop black temple killing lvl 70 mobs for the masses of cloth, greens and rep items. However TBC did see my first mass use of my professions where I started buying ore, prospecting and cutting gems. I also started making necks/rings and DEing them, and although at the time I didn’t realise I had on a small-scale started to Shuffle!

So looking back I ended TBC well, I’d Started Shuffling, and was learning to use professions, but then Wrath took a very weird direction!

So in wrath I continued to make money from JC but I did it on a very small-scale compared to TBC. However i was making what felt to me at the time a lot of gold, and I was making it from 2 very unusual sources, Fishing and Cooking! I managed to find a great spot where my character was not stood in Wintergrasp, so did not have to join battles or defend myself from PVP attacks, but I could fish into Wintergrasp for the fish requires to cook fish feasts!

So I started Selling both Fish Feasts and the raw materials, By selling the fish I kept the market price high, and thus made my Fish Feasts more valuable So we see where my understanding of market control started!

So Cataclysm rolled in and as my Rl schedule had changed I found it increasingly harder to raid, and started looking for other thing to entertain me. By pure chance I had a “Gaming News” app on my iPhone at the time, and one day a world of Warcraft article appeared from Just My Two Copper which sparked my interest into Gold making as a playing style. So I took the time to look around and found “ALTOs Gold”ish“ Advice- The Worst WoW Blog Ever!“

After reading Alto’s site for a while I started picking tricks up, and started reading other sites he talked about, eventually this lead to me doing the Shuffle in a Massive way and I started making more gold than I’d ever before. This was when I started to develop my own ideas and methods, and decided to start this blog - All Adventures have to Start Somewhere

It is only as I wrote this post that I realised how close I came to becoming a real gold maker during TBC, and how much more gold I could possibly have if I had

Anyways that’s how i started, and what got me started from as far back as Vanilla

Hope you Enjoyed this little Story of sorts, I look forward to doing more of these posts
